Aloha friends and family. I cannot believe how fast time is flying, it has been 4 months since I lost my pops and I have had some trouble keeping my updates current, but I am adjusting as best I can and will promise to continue on with my updates. I will keep you posted when I finish a much over due 2007 update including a great San Francisco trip I took with the guys to see the Raiders and then a very special Christmas time in Pittsburgh Pa. with Stephanie's family, so stay tuned.

I also want to keep you all informed about the completion of my first book "Darwin 325"

I will post a review and history of my work soon, Aloha

Jan. 20,2008

Aloha friends and family, the new year is upon us finally and I wish I could say it was starting well for myself. On New Years Eve, Stephanie and I once again headed up to Universal city for an unbelievable New Years celebration. everything there was great and the food was amazing and Stephanie looked absolutely beautiful, but for some reason I was just not feeling the festivities. Maybe I was still tired from our week on the road visiting Stephanie's family in Pittsburgh or maybe it was a  precursor for the tragedy that was to come. On Jan. 2, 2008 my father lost his battle with Diabetes and suffered an apparent heart attack in the early morning hour. My Father was the rock of our family and it hit everyone like a ton of bricks. I have only now begun to accept the fact that my father is physically gone, but he is far from gone in our hearts. My fathers funeral was the saddest moment for my family, and having to write a eulogy for my Father was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I want to share a part of mine with you now.

I never thought the day would come that I would be writing a memorial for my father. My Dad is and will always be the pillar of strength for this family. His voice was deep and resounding but he spoke with joy and love in his heart. He was the most caring and generous person you would ever want to meet, and anyone who was lucky enough to know him instantly loved him. He was most happy when surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and anybody else who ever needed somewhere to go. He was a sympathetic ear, which you could tell all your troubles to without being judged. He was chef to the world for anyone who was hungry. My dad will always be the one man I look up to the most, and I hope someday I can be half the man he was. You will be missed by many, and forever loved by all, Aloha to the real Big Kahuna

We had many friends and family come from all over the country, and many of my Dads friends were there to pay their respects. We; the family are planning another service in Hawaii (Oahu) in September for the family members that could not be there, and then we will have another one on the Big Island of Hawaii to spread my Fathers ashes in the place he was born.

Many people are skeptical about the after life, but I believe that my fathers spirit has visited me on a few occasions since his passing. Whatever you believe in, it's important to tell the ones you hold dear you love them, and do it before it's too late.

Dad you will always be missed, but I know that you will always be looking over us as we try to live a life that would make you proud. I love you, and I will do my best to take care of the family in your absence, Aloha

Kahuna's beer pick of the month

Black and Tan

HELLO ONCE AGAIN BEER LOVERS, SORRY I HAVEN’T UPDATED MY PAGE RECENTLY BUT I HAVE BEEN HOT ON THE TRAIL FOR NEW RECIPES AND NEW BEER SO KEEP CHECKING FOR NEW STUFF. THIS MONTH I WANT TO TALK ABOUT A BEER THAT THE BEER GUYS HAVE TALKED ABOUT WITH MUCH ADMIRATION. THE CLASSIC BLACK AND TAN, LAST NIGHT I WAS OUT WITH SOME FRIENDS CELEBRATING OUR BUDDY BRANDON’S BIRTHDAY AND WE STUMBLED INTO A LOCAL PASADENA CLUB. NOW THE BARTENDER WAS RELUCTANT TO MAKE A BLACK AND TAN PITCHER FOR US SO I ORDERED A PITCHER OF GUINNESS AND A PITCHER OF BASS AND AWAY WE WENT. O.K. I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WRITE IN AND SAY THAT WE SHOULD HAVE USED HARP’S INSTEAD OF BASS. THE BAR DID NOT HAVE HARP AVAILABLE AND IN MY OPINION BASS IS A BETTER BEER TO COMPLIMENT THE GUINNESS. IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I ENJOYED A GOOD DRAUGHT WITH THAT CLASSIC CREAMY SMOOTHNESS THAT GUINNESS IS SO FAMOUS FOR. THE BLACK AND TAN IS DEFINITELY A BEER TO BE ENJOYED IN GOOD COMPANY WHERE YOU CAN SIT WITH FRIENDS AND ENJOY THAT DISTINCT CURTAIN OF BUBBLES WASH AWAY YOUR TROUBLES, UNTIL NEXT TIME FRIENDS ALOHA

HELLO BEER LOVERS,

I HOPE YOUR HOLIDAY SEASON IS GOING WELL FOR YOU. THIS TIME INSTEAD OF REVIEWING WHAT BEER TO GO WITH OR IN WHAT FOOD, I THOUGHT I WOULD CHANGE IT UP A BIT AND MATCH A FOOD TO GO WITH BEER.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR "CHEESEBURGER" HOT POCKETS.  NOW I KNOW THAT HOT POCKETS ARE NOT FANCY DINING, BUT HEY I AM SINGLE AND LOVE THESE THINGS.  THEY ARE FAST AND MICROWAVEABLE AND ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS.

NOW THESE GOOD PEOPLE MAKE A LOT OF OTHER FINE STYLED HOT POCKETS, BUT THE CHEESEBURGER ONES ARE MY FAVORITE TO GO WITH A PINT OF MY FAVORITE BREW.

I HAVE TO GIVE CREDIT TO BIG JOHN AND A.J. FOR TURNING ME ON TO THESE THINGS; I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THEM. THE CHEESEBURGER HOT POCKETS REMIND ME OF A "JACK IN THE BOX" CHEESEBURGER STUFFED INTO A HOT POCKET CRUST. LOT'S OF CHEESE AND MEAT TO BE HAD AND FOR THE PRICE A VIRTUAL MEAL IN ITSELF.

I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS REVIEW AND GO AND TRY THESE WITH YOUR FAVORITE BEER.

THE PEOPLE AT HOT POCKETS HAVE NOT PAID ME FOR THIS REVIEW BUT IF THEY WANT TO SEND ME A YEAR SUPPLY OF THEIR PRODUCT FOR SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION THEN E-MAIL ME

MAHALO,

KAHUNA

CIDERS AND OTHER BREW RELATED DRINKS:

THE OTHER DAY WHILE I WAS  BROWSING THROUGH MY LOCAL LIQUOR STORE I CAME ACROSS A SECTION OF BREWS THAT I HAVE NEVER GIVEN ANY THOUGHT TO. THERE WAS A LARGE SELECTION OF HARD CIDERS FROM APPLE TO PEAR FLAVORS, HARD TEA'S TO SPIKED LEMONADES AND EVEN HARD ORANGE DRINKS. NOW BEING THE OPEN MINDED BEER GUY THAT I AM I DECIDED TO GIVE THE CLOSELY BREWED COUSIN TO BEER A TRY.  I TRIED A COUPLE DIFFERENT BRANDS OF HARD APPLE CIDERS TO START. "HORNSBY'S ,WOODPECKERS AND HARD CORE " WERE A FEW OF THE BRANDS I STARTED WITH. I FOUND THE CIDERS TO BE A VERY EASY DRINKING BREW PACKED WITH LOTS OF APPLE FLAVOR. I THEN TURNED MY ATTENTION TO A HARD LEMONADE NAMED "DOC OTIS". THIS WAS THE BEST TASTING LEMONADE I HAVE EVER HAD, AND AFTER A FEW OF THESE I FOUND OUT HOW LETHAL THEY WERE. BEING A SWEET LEMONADE BASED BREW YOU FORGET THAT THIS IS FILLED WITH ALCOHOL AND IT'S EASY TO GET CAUGHT UP IN THE CONSUMPTION AND LOOSE TRACK. THANKFULLY I DID MY TESTING IN A SAFE PLACE WITHOUT HAVING TO DRIVE AFTERWARDS. IN CLOSING OF THIS FIRST REVIEW ON ALTERNATIVE BREWS I KNOW THESE WILL NEVER REPLACE BEER BUT I HOPE YOU KEEP AN OPEN MIND WHEN ENCOUNTERING THESE TASTY TREATS.
