Where for art thou !!!

Not every day is a great adventure. Sometimes it's a quick trip to the local pub or brewery. Sometimes it's a slow evening at home. Here lies some of these days. Not quite the larger adventures as you find on our beer adventure page. Since these slower days also include the search for the Worlds Greatest Beer it needed it's own page. Also included is the establishments were the beer is from. Sometimes it is the people, place, or mood that makes for a good beer.

June 15,2002 The Irish Fair and The Beer Guys!!!!

Now that Kahuna and Macool got Las Vegas out of their system for a few months it was time for another adventure. This time was a first for the Big Kahuna. The Irish Fair. Macool as the Irishman has been to the Irish Fair usually every year. It was a good place for Macool's favorite brew Guinness. They had it on tap. The drinking was slow. At $6 a beer and with the sun heating things up it was wise to drink lightly.

We are curious to see if the atmosphere makes a difference in the quality of a beer. The Guinness did seem a little better than normal. Maybe it was the sun. Then again maybe it was the Irish ness of the place.

It was cool seeing the pipers. Bagpipes are Irish not Scottish by the way. There were also tons of booths with Irish crafts.

Forget the Lord of the Dance. The Irish fair also included its own dancers.

One of the best dogs. The Irish Setter not Macool!!

The toys we have to have. A great bargain at the Irish Fair. They also make great watermelon cutters. Why do you need these? Because we are men. That is all the reason we need...

May 12, 2002-The Beer Guys experience the Karl Strauss Brewery and Restaurant in Universal City walk in Los Angeles.

When Kahuna and Macool decided to go to the Karl Strauss Brewery and Restaurant they did  a little research before arriving. One thing they looked forward to was the beer battered onion rings listed on a menu. These being a favorite of the two they were disappointed to arrive and beer battered onion rings were not on the menu. Not a problem. The service seemed vary good. The waiter Ryan was very helpful. He served them the samplers.  This was very pleasing. Usually the samplers at most places are pretty much eye droppers. Karl Strauss severed them in larger 8 oz. glasses. The samplers contained 8 beers. To go with the brew they added an order of wings and each a fish and chips.

The food was definitely top of the line and well worth the trip there. If you want to dine it is definitely recommended by The Beer Guys. Now on to the beer. It is a brewery after all.

Macool and Kahuna did find a favorite among the brews. The Oatmeal Stout. The stout had a great aroma like that of Guinness. Definitely a heavy hearty Stout. Great to the last drop. Macool and Kahuna both gave it 8 beers out of 10.

20003.jpg (627803 bytes) Kahuna enjoys his brew.  20007.jpg (648852 bytes) Macool makes a hard choice. Which one ! Which one !

Kahuna and Macool were a little critical on some of the  other brews. Their reviews will soon be on our reviews page. Their overall rating of the Karl Strauss experience was and 8 out of 10. With the great food and plenty of Oatmeal Stout on hand it was a great place to go. A definite stop for the beer lover going by Universal City Walk..

Vegas Baby !!!!!!!

This Beer Guy spent the weekend in Vegas. Of course there is a lot to be said about beer and Vegas. The first thing of course is FREE!!! Oh yeah !!! While sitting at the Venetian. So far the greatest casino I have been in. I was sitting at a blackjack table drinking my Guinness. The guy next to me orders a Miller lite. Not to nock Lite but definitely no a Guinness. I asked what the hell he was doing and his response was " Excuse Me". I asked why would he ever order a beer like that when the casino had Sam Adams, Newcastle, Heineken, and Guinness. He said he never thought about it.  To truly have a good beer experience in Vegas you must have a good beer. Beers like Guinness are great. Beyond that when it is free.

The Venetain as seen from the Mirage The Venetian Casino and Hotel.

When you add a great casino like the Venetian and a free Guinness not to mention the spin of a roulette table you have a winner. The Venetian serves bottles. They had Guinness Draught no the Stout. It is a little smoother for the newer beer drinker. Definitely a good choice to go to the Venetian and why you are enjoying a little card game or maybe slots, be sure to order one of the fine beers they offer.

As another small note The Rio also serves Guinness at the bar in the pint Draught cans. ( my personal favorite that I am drinking as I write this. ) Even though most of us here at TheBeerGuys.com like the Rio they may have not enjoyed The Venetian. As far as Grand goes The Venetian has surpassed that. Worth the stay.

Excalibur still has the nicest beer glasses for sale in their gift shop, so stop buy and pick up a class. P.S. their blackjack dealers paid me pretty good at the tables.
